GLS Institute of Computer Technology is now almost eleven
years old and was established in 1999 with approval from AICTE
and Gujarat Technological University. It is a post-graduate center and offers
an MCA program under self-finance scheme besides a BCA program
readily available on the campus.
Computer Facilities
The computer laboratories of MCA have been put on a fiber
optic backbone with 3Com Superstack Switches and have sharable
Windows 2003, DS-10 Alpha OpenVMS RISC and Red Hat
LINUX servers with all the necessary software packages
and host of peripherals such as line printer, laser printer,
inkjet printers, scanners, CD writer, DVD writer etc. Out of
around 350 Pentium IV nodes, 140 machines are exclusively
allocated to MCA programme.
Internet facility is available to all students through two dedicated
high speed 1.5 MBPS DSL connection from Tata Indicom and Exattnet via a Proxy
Server.
This laboratory facility is open to students for access on
all days including Sundays. It functions in an open shop environment.
Separate Experimental Laboratory is also available to the
students for hands-on unscheduled experiments.
Library Facilities
The institute library has rich collection of books on Computer
Science, Computer Applications and Information Technology.
It has acquired more than 10000 books covering
almost all areas of computer science and subscribed to more
than 50 national as well as international journals
in this discipline. It has also acquired more than 800
CDs containing reference material in digital form. Spacious
reading room attached to the library has facility for reading
and viewing CDs within the library premises.
Intake and applicable fees
Total number of seats sanctioned are 120. Allocation
to Management Quota and the amount of fees for all the categories
will be as per the decision of competent authorities. Reservation
for SC, ST, SEBC etc. categories will be as per the prevailing
rules.
Faculty for this Course
Prof. R. P. Soni (formerly Director of Rollwala Computer Centre,
Gujarat University) who has more than 42 years of experience
in Computer Science Education as well as IT Management to
his credit has been heading this institute. Other distinguished
and experienced faculty members are Professor and Director Dr. Bhushan
Trivedi (formerly Director of Computer Center, Gujarat Vidyapith),
Associate Professor Ms. Jyotika Doshi (formerly Reader in Computer Science
at S. K. Patel Institute), Associate Professor Mr. Harshal Arolkar having 11 years of teaching experience, Associate Professor Ms. Alpa Sandesara having 11 years of teaching and industry experience, Associate Professor Ms. Sonal Jain having 10 years of teaching experience, Assistant Professor Ms. Maitri Jhaveri, Assistant Professor Mr. Viral Nagori, Assistant Professor Ms. Urja Patel, Assistant Professor Ms. Rupal Shah, Assistant Professor Ms. Zakiya Mallek, Assistant Professor Ms. Lata Gohil and Assistant Professor Mr. Maxwell Christian. Moreover, Four other Computer Science faculty members of BCA course and well experienced faculty members from other prominent institutes also assist in teaching as visiting faculty. Besides the core faculty, distinguished academicians and professionals from the field are being invited regularly to deliver special talks to the students
Placement in the Industry
Many software companies and industries have started coming
for campus interviews. In addition, the institution and the
faculty members actively assist the students in choosing and
obtaining project assignments in the industry during the studies
as well as suitable jobs after completion of the course. As
a result, all the pass outs of last three batches (2007,
2008 and 2009) have been well placed in the industry. It is noteworthy
that renowned multinational software companies based in metropolitan
cities outside Gujarat have recruited several of the students
from this institute.
