General Information About MCA

The Master of Computer Applications course was initiated in India during 1984-85 by University Grants Commission and Department of Electronics to meet the shortage of skilled manpower in the country. The Gujarat University initiated this course during 1987-88. However, looking to the continued demand of trained manpower in the field of Information Technology, and the infrastructure already available at FCAIT, GLSU campus, the Gujarat Law Society also decided to contribute to the area of higher education in IT by way of establishing the FCAIT, GLSU Institute of Computer Technology for offering this prestigious MCA course and FCAIT, GLSU Institute of Computer Applications for offering BCA course on the campus in July, 1999.

Parikh) Institute of Computer Technology (FCAIT, GLSU - MCA) will be a premier class institution of academic excellence by integrating teaching and learning, advancement of the knowledge base through research. Further, the institute will be a leading player in preparing IT professionals who will provide exemplary services to improve the lives of individual and society.

Mission

With this mission Gujarat Law Society was established in 1927 by the iron man of India - Shri Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first speaker of the Lok Sabha - Shri Ganesh Mavlankar, Business magnet - Shri Kasturbhai Lal Bhai, Legal Luminary - Shri I.M Nanavati and other stalwarts whose foresight and vision have guided it through seven decade of existence.

GLS (Shailesh R. Parikh) Institute of Computer Technology (FCAIT, GLSU - MCA) adheres to the above mission and helps prepare outstanding IT educators, scholars, entrepreneurs, researchers and professionals by effective uses of technology.

Pedagogy

A variety of teaching and learning techniques are employed to impart knowledge and skills to students at FCAIT, GLSU - MCA. Lectures, presentations, seminars and practical project work are commonly used to develop conceptual, analytical and decision making skills of the students, and to prepare the students to face the challenges of the organizational environment. An attempt is made to assess the students' performance through a continuous system of tests, quizzes, mid-term and semester-end examination to ensure highest academic standards as well as practical orientation.

MCA Programme Objectives

The MCA program focuses on the following program educational objectives:

» To develop the students technical and professional abilities so as the student can analyse a system.
» To make the students competent to develop and implement computer applications to meet the demands of IT and other industry domains.

MCA Programme Outcomes

On Completion of the MCA degree the Graduates are expected to

» Demonstrate the technical knowhow in field of Computer Science.

» Design and develop Software as per customer requirements.
» Work as a team member and team leader as an when needed.
» Render efficient skills to climb the hierarchy of an organization.
» Develop the individual as Entrepreneur in the field of Computer Science.
» Exhibit skills for a continuous and lifelong learning.
» Understand and dispatch his Professional and Ethical responsibilities towards self and society at large.

Live Projects

Though classroom learning is given emphasis at FCAIT, GLSU - MCA, students are required to undertake a number of practical projects in the different courses of the programme for which the information gathered from business/industry is analyzed and presented in the form of reports.

Capstone Project

Every student in the final semester of the programme is required to undertake a live full time project assignment in the industry. A student chooses a topic on which primary data is gathered and analyzed in order to prepare a working system, for which he/she is supposed to work in the industry for 6 months. At the end of the duration a project report for the same is prepared that is evaluated by a panel of experts.
